Rob founded eXplorminate in 2014 as his passion for 4X needed an outlet. You can find Rob in just about every 4X game beta and 4X game forum, too. He’s equally obsessed with the strategy and tactics genres and constantly combs the internet for new and exciting titles in those genres. He’s proud to be a member of Amplitude Studios’ VIP program and the concept creator of Endless Space 2’s Unfallen.
Not concerned about any potential conflict of interest. Just glad to see you all making a bit of dinero. Great show! Have always liked GalCiv and will pick up the game myself soon.
A podcast about GalCiv4 by an employee of Stardock, a moderator of a GalCiv forum, on a site with Stardock ads is pretty disappointing to see from Explorminate – a site which has always put independence first.
Despite all the disclaimers about an any actual conflict, the appearance of conflict is still there. When Troy Goodfellow started work with Paradox, he immediately recused himself from all 3MA Paradox shows. That would be the least to expect here from Ben as a Stardock employee.
We hear you. In retrospect, it probably wasn’t the best ensemble to put together. Mind you, Illauna doesn’t get paid and the site receiving ad money from Stardock doesn’t affect my (Rob) feelings about GC4, I can see the conflict of interest is STRONG with Ben.
We will certainly do better next time.
@Sam These guys are working hard to bring content for free to you in your spare time and have been trying to keep the site from shutting down, and you’re berating them for a “conflict of interest.” It’s not that serious, and be happy these guys have jobs in the field and can still do what amounts to a hobby at this point….. Keep it up, Explornimate!
eXplorminate has a solid rep for giving honest reviews to Stardock programs. And I don’t know if Stardock likes that or not, but in my opinion they benefit from it.
