SpellForce: Conquest of Eo Gameplay

, , ,

SpellForce: Conquest of Eo is an adventure, RPG, 4X, and tactical hybrid that might actually pull off that crazy amalgamation of genres. Were you a bit disappointed by the new Master of Magic? Have you been looking for something new and unique? Are you a SpellForce fan that wants to see more games set in its unique universe?

Look no further, as SpellForce: Conquest of Eo might just be the game you are all looking for. It has a few of us here at eXplorminate completely spellbound with it.

Meanwhilte, Rob managed to snag Jan Wagner, a lead over at Owned By Gravity, the developers behind this promising title, for a gameplay video preview. Jan watches on as Rob plays the first hour or so of Conquest of Eo. During the video, Jan provides some rare insight into design decisions and even some “pro-tips”:

As the Steam Page describes:

Become the greatest of mages in this turn-based fantasy epic set in the world of SpellForce! From the humble beginnings of your small wizard’s tower, send forth your minions and heroes to explore the realms of Eo. Grow your influence and power and fill your grimoire with arcane knowledge. Face off against magical competitors in your hunt for ancient artifacts and hidden secrets as you build up your tower and area of influence to unleash the greatest spell the world has ever known.

  • Build up your tower and construct new rooms to determine your wizard’s path
  • Recruit individual heroes to lead your troops, each with their personal quest
  • Make the living interactive grimoire reveal new secrets and spells to you
  • Craft anything from magical runes and artifacts to undead minions
  • Discover new adventures with each procedurally generated campaign

The game clearly takes some inspiration from the venerated Master of Magic, but it takes that inspiration in all new directions, clearly pushing the genre forward. Imagine if Thea 1/2, Master of Magic, and even Age of Wonders had a baby. It’d be SpellForce: Conquest of Eo.

Let us know what you think of the gameplay – and the video format – in the comments below!

Hi praise! I really enjoyed Spellforce 1. More 4x elements sound good, so I’ve wishlisted it.

It doesn’t *feel* generic. The quests are fun, the combat is fast and frenetic, and it’s just very polished.

A more narrowly focused version of AoW sounds quite interesting.

it’s not too hard to be better than the odd job from MuHa, but the stream game-play of SpellForce looked quite generic, hustle and boring.
