Actually Pandora: First Contact wasn’t the first game from Proxy Studios.
I dunno, I’d take the opposite approach with Zephon. Does Gladius NEED that many factions with so much overlap in their units? Is there really such a huge difference between Marine scouts, ratling snipers, Skitarii Rangers, and Eldar Rangers? I’d say fluff aside, every unit type and gameplay mechanic from Gladius is present in Zephon.
In this respect, Gladius had to be this way, because of the Warhammer IP. The main draw of Gladius is that IP, so they couldn’t NOT use these units.
The Warhammer IP is a bit of a mess though.
Yeah, I know, but my point is people hate on Zephon for not having 8 bajillion factions like Gladius, but from a pure gameplay perspective there’s massive overlap between and within the factions. The real differences between factions are embodied by leader traits in Zephon.
So in Zephon you can have Space Marine scouts by building sharpshooters as the emulated mind, or you can have Necron Deathmarks by building sharpshooters as the Fallen Soldier. Fluff aside, Zephon is fully-featured Gladius with piles and piles of fat cut away.
