Show is downloading now, I see the show notes are now included with the podcast, pretty spiffy!

Glad to hear GalCiv4 is being worked on. Here’s hoping it incorporates lore-related quests/events, and some form of tactical combat.

So a few thoughts on the direction you want to take the WeX..

I’ll start off by saying I’m not as active of a user, but I’ve been listening to the podcast religiously for the past few years. 4X and Strategy are my core genres, so it was great to hear about news and games every week.

That being said, and to your point Rob a lot of the news ended up being outdated by the time the podcast was released. Personally I didn’t mind, as some news stories were still interesting even after the fact or if I had missed it. I do however support a “week in review” type news post on the site and I would certainly check it out.

To add, I think the idea of moving more towards discussion on the podcast is what I personally have wanted from the start. A lot of other gaming podcasts that I listen too don’t necessarily focus on the news, or will maybe have a brief segment of big news stories but other than that it was different discussion points, emails, games they’re playing, hot takes etc. To that end I think it would be great to get some more voices on the podcasts as guests be it staff or developers for different segments. I would also love segments on adjacent genres like Grand Strategy, Turn Based Tactical games, and so on whether they have dedicated segments or are mixed in with the show. Don’t let the 4X purists get to you 😉

In any cases, just want to say thank you to Rob, Nate and the staff for the changes on the site and the YouTube channel. Everything’s looking great, and it’s a good time to be a 4X fan!

I didn’t like Galciv2. And I don’t like Galciv3. Why am I interested to hear there’s going to be a Galciv4?

I wouldn’t mind news staying, but only news that isn’t time sensitive. You had a good example of the ES2 free weekend. Doesn’t seem like there is any point in mentioning that as it will have happened in the past. Well maybe a quick mention, just as an appreciative shout out to companies who do that.

Digging into news items like updates that have just released, is in my opinion, still a great thing to go over. Like the time you spent talking about Civ VI on this show. I guess that does fall more into the discussion rather than the news, but I do think it is important to make that distinction. Not all news should be skipped!

Nice. I have always listened WeX more for the discussion than just getting a recap of weekly news. I mean there are so many 4X games and I don’t have time to play them all so most of that news itself has always been useless for me. But what I love is the discussion even if it’s about a game I haven’t played myself. So yeah I think it’s a good idea for WeX to focus more on the discussion and keep the full list of news in text format one can easily glance over.

I hope they do something new with GalCiv 4 because so far the series just seems way too basic and bland to me. All the other games have their interesting quirks about them so even if most of them aren’t perfect you can still say that this game did that thing really well or in an interesting way etc. A 4X space title that would have full tactical combat is something I’d be most interested in.
