That’s a really great format! I fired up Europa Universalis 4 and am having a blast. It has some questionable design choices (e.g. growing colonies feels too structured for my taste), but the feeling of discovery when sending your explorers over the seas to explore strange new lands, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before, or something along those lines, is wonderful. The issues with colonialism are not tackled sufficiently, though.

If any of you have heard of a game which focuses mostly on such exploration, I would be grateful for recommendations.
