Not the SteamFest | Everwar

(no. 5: Everwar)

eXplorminate note:
This is an article series dedicated to the smaller developers, some of whom may not have managed to get onto the SteamFest. While we at eXplorminate do like the bigger games in the genre (Eo, Old World, Age of Wonders etc) I thought this was a great chance to highlight visibility for the smaller developers. I think the best ideas often come from smaller developers, who are more willing to bend the rules, challenge conventions and take risks.

Game: Everwar
Developer: Ultium Games (aka  Autumn Noti on the Discord!)

Game Description:

Ever War is a turn-based strategy game where you manage settlements and armies to lead your kingdom to victory over your opponents. Raise great armies to destroy all who oppose you, secure access to valuable resources and conquer the realm

In short I’m a bit of a world builder. I was designing this fantasy property that’s primarily inspired by Warhammer fantasy along with various other ips and thought the best direction for bringing it to life was making a games based of my concepts. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get a lot of my ideas in but hoped I’d build the foundations for new games, get funding, and build a fanbase. The main inspirations for the game was Total War games and Songs of Conquest. Development started around May last year and this is my first game that I’m developing solely.

There’s a one to one relationship between army recruitment and population, -settlement buildings are map entities many of which can be interacted with to change prioritize different resources. -where buildings can be placed is determined by the environment that tile is in.

Faction overview:

  • Medlend – The high fantasy humans
  • Faction Lore- The grand collection of princedoms ruled over by the immortal queen Faeya. It was founded by horse lords guided by the queen. Their descendants now rule these lands to defend it from raiders and insurgents. Population mechanics – They have one population type: peasants. Peasants can be trained to be soldiers or used as laborers. The soldiers can then be trained to be knights. Army- This faction has a diverse array of cavalry, range units and melee infantry.
  • Boraeloth – Orcy viking
  • Faction lore- The cold northern regions of this world that the Boraelings call home. Their societies are led by powerful war chieftains and for millennia they terrorize the people of their south and take their riches. For Boraeloth has a war captive population and a Boraeling population with Population mechanics – They have two population types: war captives and boraelings. War captives are primarily used as laborers. Boraelings are used as laborers for some buildings but are mainly used as soldiers. Boraelings can be trained to be warriors. Army- This faction prioritizes strong melee units, while also having strong cavalry and war monsters.
  • Kursians- rodent people
  • Faction Lore – A race of highly numerous rodentkin from the great forest of the far east. Their societies are made of coalitions of large eusocial families called herds. Their goal is to unite the herds and retake the land they lost to Medlend. Population mechanics – They have two population types: Kobolds and Kughors. Both are used as laborers and soldiers but Kobolds are of higher number and used for all buildings. Army- This faction has lots of cheap low moral units supported by more specialized units
