Old World is Coming to Steam and GOG

It’s the news you all have been waiting for! Old World, the excellent 4X strategy game by the team at Mohawk Games, will be coming to Steam and GOG in Spring of 2022, after releasing into 1.0 on Epic earlier this year to a glowing review by our own Omar. In addition, Old World is now being published by the exciting new publisher on the block, Hooded Horse, who also have highly anticipated games such as Alliance of the Scared Suns and Falling Frontier in their upcoming library. With all the updates Old World has had since its 1.0 release, we are looking forward to getting back into the game and giving you an update on what has changed and improved since its initial release.

Spring of 2022? That means June. That means it spent a year on Epic in ‘early edition’ mode followed by another year in ‘1.0 release’ mode. Two. Years. Yeah, it’s hard to get excited about this. But thanks for the news anyway.

I can’t say that I agree with you. Games aren’t food, they don’t rot and become unconsumable with the passage of time. And two years is not long at all. Hell, with the way these things are priced I can’t even remember the last time I bought a game within two years of release.

Well, I’ll somewhat disagree with you on the “two years is not long at all” assertion. When you get above a certain age and can’t be certain that you’ll still be around in a couple years, it’s not quite such a non-issue, ha ha. Having to wait however many years for certain games you’re interested in to get funded and then to get developed and released, and then throwing in a couple more years to make it to a platform you want to play it on, and claiming that is all “not that long” is a younger man’s way of looking at things. 😉

Considering the state of the game now and its 1.0 release, I think the non-Epic users will win out by getting a much more polished game. 1.0 was phenomenal, but performance for one has improved greatly along with other changes such as random leaders that will increase the longevity of the game imo.
