Just when you thought it was safe to focus on Shristmas some big gaming developments occurred. AllUrWalletrBelongToSteam (because Gabe needs a new boat)

First off, Project Thea.

This has been in the works for a while. The game looks be be a throwback to Thea and Thea 2, but set in a post apocalyptic fantasy + sci-fi world. Intriguing. MuHa games are also responsible for the Masters of Magic remake. Available now on Steam for 10% off. And there is a demo too. Initial thoughts on this a while back centred on the artwork, which looks to be much improved.

Wake to a brutal world bent on destroying your colony. Rebuild, Explore the Wastelands, and Gather scarce resources. Will you strike a deal with the ruthless Baba Yaga – or hack a rogue Cyber-Rat to turn it into an ally? A dark strategy-survival RPG with card-based tactical combat.

By the way, the Baba Yaga is real! Here is one of it’s minions.

Next, we have Songs of Silence: Celestial Church. A new faction, which has a mobile base, and is tasked with hunting down heretics. Sounds like fun. You can hear our thoughts on SoS here, and watch BloodyBattleBrain start the campaign here.

Once upon a time a general was sent to the divine tournament for his house’s glory. By blood and cunning he earned the favor of a divine Skirill. For nearly a decade he has served the Celestial Church, hunting heretics and restoring order. Yet he still wonders why the creature chose a man of so little faith.

Runequest: Warlords – not much gameplay has been seen here, but the release of this is imminent. I for one am very interested in what looks like “6 Ages: the strategy game.” That said, publisher Slitherine has a good track record, so this is definitely on my wishlist.

RuneQuest: Warlords is a battle-scale turn-based strategy game set in the RuneQuest universe. Immerse yourself in the rich lore of Glorantha. Become a warlord, master the use of runes and defend your tribe against the incursions of Chaos. Field an army drawing from heroes and creatures.

Endless Legend 2 has been updated. If you have been waiting for a reason to play Endless Legend 2, the recent update to the early access game might be it. It is also available for 20% off currently. The “Clearing Skies” update has a new UI, and a bunch of other stuff, including a combat rework. Watch our gameplay coverage and listen to our podcast.

Now, the next game is not really a 4X (what even is a 4X?Join the debate)but I loved the demo.

A fast-paced roguelike kingdom builder. Grow your empire and fight massive battles against powerful rival kings. Break the game with thousands of insane builds to become the King of Kings.

9 Kings is on sale! 50% off. Super focused, rogue lite strategy. It can feel a bit rng sometimes, but it is concentrated, short duration fun. I find it perfect for when I want a quick brain scratcher, nothing too serious. Do note that it is still early access, but for the price, this is great.

Last of all, not a 4X, not even new! In an age where developers run out of steam or, sadly, sometimes just abandon games, it is incredible, and great, to see a developer revisit a game, and work on it after release, to the point it is now good. I present to you Phantom Brigade 2. This is also on sale, 50% off, and has a demo.
