A pirate with two peg legs? Pfft, weaksauce. A real hardcore pirate not only has two peg legs, but also two hooks for hands, two eye patches, two parrots on his shoulders AND two bushy beards.
Thanks for the show guys.

I really loved Space Tyrant, but let’s be objective – if you’re a developer, then Space Tyrant must surely be a model of what *not* to do. Clearly a ton of development effort went into the game and then no-one bought it. There are games that look they were thrown together in an afternoon that sold more. Shame, but that’s the reality.

Ouch, but there is truth there. It came out at a time when there were lots of 4x games dropping left and right.

Yeah totally agreed. I loved Space Tyrant too, and it deserved way more attention and sales than it got. It was innovative, had a lot of professional polish, and was also modestly priced. Unfortunately I fear you are correct, their poor sales performance may send the wrong message to other developers. That is, don’t innovate, just crank out yet another boring low quality clone of MOO or Civ.
I think possibly a few things were working against them when they released the game, one (as Nasarog points out) was the flood of other similar-ish high profile games, like Into the Breach, but I think the other issue may have been the high difficulty curve, which may have put off casual players. (The devs probably should have added an easy mode option, I think. Might have shot themselves in the foot a little by not doing that. )

Gladius asking five bucks for that tiny dlc only further convinces me their pricing policy is just whack. I’ll spend my gaming dollars elsewhere.

I’ve been keeping my eye on this one for a while, but I agree, I think for an indie title with such limited content, their overall pricing is just a bit too high. No way I’m paying $40 for the base game and certainly no way I’m paying an additional $5 for paltry additional content that probably should have been in the game in the first place.
I certainly don’t mind paying a fair price for games and I know the devs need to eat, but comparatively speaking they’re charging like double (or more) the price of other indie titles in the same league (many of which are more like $15-20). Heck for $40 you can buy a lot of AAA titles on sale these days. The practical reality then is that my forty bucks more likely goes there instead.

It’s the Slitherine surcharge plus the Warhammer surcharge, it was never going to be a fair price.
To be fair, those nice detailed models cost a lot to make, which explains why some other games are priced higher than expected too.

Actually that’s a good point, hadn’t considered the fact that it’s based on licensed IP, which comes with royalty overhead.

eXplorminate 8 years ago

Yep. That’s pretty much right.

And speaking of AAA titles, Nasarog, I totally agree, XCOM2 Tactical Legacy Pack rocks! I also thought I was done with XCOM2, but here I am playing it again for hours and hours, and it’s great fun!
